Overview

In the Munich Hofgarten the Diana Temple sits where eight paths meet. People cross it constantly and almost nobody stays. I captured the whole site with a drone, rebuilt it as a photogrammetric model, and used that model as the ground for a bench system that gives the place a reason to linger.

The scan

The Hofgarten was flown with a DJI Mini 4 Pro in parallel lanes, shifted sideways by a fixed distance and flown back in the opposite direction — an ordered image sequence with enough overlap for the software to solve. The goal was not a pretty texture. It was correct scale and correct spatial relationships, because the benches had to be positioned in the real geometry of the site afterwards.

The bench

A long stone body with a recessed inlay, placed as a ring that follows the eight-path geometry instead of fighting it. The inlay picks up the verdigris of the temple’s copper dome, so the new element belongs to the old one by colour rather than by imitation.
